How to Create a 6-Step Social Media Strategy

Essentially, a social media strategy outlines goals, tactics, and metrics you'll use to attain them. An effective social media plan will outline your team membership and responsibilities, as well as your reporting schedule.

Here is how to create a social media strategy for your business:

 

1. Choose Social Media Marketing goals that are aligned with your business goals

Without those goals you won’t be able to measure the success of the social media presence of your business. 

Although Vanity Metrics like following and liking are easy to track, it is difficult to quantify their value. Focus instead on conversion rates, click-throughs, and engagement. Which means, no-no to buying bot followers for your business. 

 

2. Create an Audience Persona

Otherwise known as your audience avatar. 

This is important because it will allow you to create content that your target audience will like, comment on and share.  This is very important if you want to turn your followers into paying customers. 

The basic things to consider for creating an audience persona would be their age, where they are located, their gender, and interest. 

 

 

3. Perform a Competitor’s Analysis

Allow yourself to spot your competition, what they do, what they are good at and where they are weak. Doing this will allow you to spot opportunities for positioning your social media platform in a way that will attract the type of audience and customers towards your business. 

 

4. Do a Social Media Audit

This will allow you to find out the following on your social media accounts: 

  • Find out what works and what doesn’t
  • Find out the types of audience engage with your platform
  • Find out how your social media presence compares to the competition and how you can make it better.

 

 

5. Improve your profile

This includes changing your banners, defining your branding colors, and planning your captions well. 

Doing this helps your business expand your brand, and remain on top of the mind of your target audience and potential customers. Remember the function of social media nowadays is almost as close as what search engines do, so make sure you research well, for the latest strategies that will work well for your kind of niche or industry. 

 

6. Hire a specialist

This is the little secret that’s saved the best for last that needs to be told. If you’re seeing influencers who have social media presence on almost all of the platforms, that simply means there is a team behind supporting the business in it’s every move. 

Having a team will allow you to get a wider reach for your target audience. While you focus on the minimal but important stuff for your business.
